A LITTLE MORE INFO
Casita Rica is a one-bedroom, short term accommodation, cosy home, nestled into the hillside at Police Point, Southern Tasmania. Located just off the Esperance Coast Road, it has sweeping eastern views to where the Huon River meets with the D'Entrecasteaux Channel.
There are many easy day trips to enjoy, using Casita Rica as your base. Heading south along the Esperance Coast Road, you'll pass secret little coves, idyll for beach walks and maybe a dip at Surveyors Bay or Roaring Bay. Next is the nearby town of Dover, picturesque with Adamsons Peak silhouetted against a brilliant sunset, or blanketed with snow in the depths of winter. Further on you'll pass through the towns of Southport and Hastings, before arriving at Hastings Thermal Springs and Hastings Caves, Its Newdegate Cave, the largest dolomite cave open to visitors in Australia.
If you're up for a little more driving, picking up the South Cape Rd and then Cockle Creek Rd, eventually arriving at Researche and Cockle Creek - the most southern driveable destination by road in Australia. You'll be meet by tranquil coves and pristine beaches, from which there are world class, walking tracks and hikes.
As Casita Rica sits up on the west bank of the Huon River, you'll need to drive back up to Huonville, passing through the tiny 'frozen in time' town of Franklin, before crossing over to the east bank. From here its a pretty drive down through Cygnet, before winding your way to Kettering and boarding the ferry - a short 20min car and foot passenger crossing - to arrive on Bruny Island.
A very underpopulated Island, the easy drive south over the neck and down to Cloudy Bay, offers breathtaking views of the surrounds. In the off-season you can truly believe that its all yours. Many local producers are found along the route - amongst them honey, oysters, baked goods and cheeses. It really just becomes one big progressive lunch!
While we offer a full kitchen at Casita Rica, with pantry staples supplied free of charge, there are many highly-recommended eating options to enjoy enroute or for a brunch, a lunch or dinner.

A short and very pretty drive back up the road, is the lovely town of Geeveston. Both The Old Bank Cafe and Harvest & Light offer great food, coffee and other deli items. Its IGA and local butcher are close alternatives to driving back up to Huonville and its supermarket.
On your return route, take Scotts Road so you can pop into Pure Mist - a world awarded and recognised, local water business which also produces unique gins onsite - worthy of, at the very least, a chat and tasting with Daniel.
